Byford Library is located within the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, in the township of Byford. Set amongst picturesque forests and farmland, the town is a true depiction of Western Australia's country lifestyle. The project to revitalise and relocate the library into the heritage Byford Hall, was one taken with great excitement by the Shire. In collaboration with leading architecture firm, Hames Sharley, the library was built to provide a modern and engaging space for the community to learn, connect and interact. Castledex were proud to be involved in the project; working closing with Shire and architect stakeholders to create and prototype furniture and shelving solutions that complemented the architectural design and met the functional needs of the library.
The goal of the project was to create a modern, user-friendly and welcoming space for the community. The library was designed to promote community engagement and provide a welcoming resource for people of all ages. Castledex was tasked with providing furniture and shelving solutions that would align with the design intent, meet functional requirements, and provide a flexible, durable and aesthetically pleasing solution.
Our team worked closely with Hames Sharley and the Shire in a collaborative process, where we worked on bringing Hames’ architectural vision to life with the creation of bespoke curved shelving units. We created visual representations of each bespoke piece, and worked closely with stakeholders to adapt the design to align with the intent, whilst maintaining economical manufacturing capabilities.
By being involved in the early stages of the concept, and then the subsequent tendering and final specification phase – we were able to ensure that the outcome of this project was entirely cohesive. Working with stakeholders from the design phase, right through to library staff and users – meant Castledex were able to deliver a range of products that not only complemented an incredible concept and design, but enabled the space to form a life of its own.
One of the key solutions was the provision of flexible and mobile furniture, which allowed for easy reconfiguration of the space to meet changing needs – ensuring effectiveness of the space well into the future
The Byford Library project was a successful collaboration of stakeholders. The solutions provided by our Castledex met the design intent and functional requirements, providing a comfortable and engaging space for the community.
