Byford Library brings new life to the heritage-listed Byford Hall, transforming it into a vibrant, community-focused hub. Castledex worked with the Shire and Hames Sharley to deliver flexible, functional FF&E aligned with the library’s vision.

What the Shire and Hames Sharley needed.

The vision was to create a modern, user-friendly space that encouraged community connection, supported diverse learning needs, and remained sensitive to the building’s heritage context. Furniture and shelving needed to be flexible, durable, and complementary to the architectural intent.

How we acted on what we heard.

Castledex worked closely with Hames Sharley and the Shire to co-design a series of furniture and shelving solutions tailored to the space. We developed bespoke curved shelving units that aligned with the architectural vision and ensured practical functionality for library staff and patrons. Visual prototypes were shared and refined in collaboration with stakeholders throughout the design process.

Key highlights included:

  • Custom shelving designed for aesthetics, durability, and ease of use
  • Mobile furniture selections allowing for reconfiguration of community zones
  • Coordination from early concept development through to delivery and installation

Inspired results

Castledex successfully delivered:

  • Furniture and shelving solutions that balance heritage character with modern functionality
  • A flexible, welcoming space that supports a broad range of community activities
  • Seamless collaboration across design, stakeholder consultation, and delivery

The revitalised Byford Library is a celebration of local identity and community access. Castledex is proud to have played a part in creating a space that reflects the region’s character while meeting the evolving needs of its people.
